11 Day Green Desert Fly In Safari Tau Pan, Okavango Delta, Lebala & Chobe National Park

Gold Rated, Upon Request Accommodated Safari (Botswana)

Safari Highlights:
Tau Pan - Kalahari Game Reserve; Okavango Delta, Moremi Game Reserve, Lebala Camp (Linyanti area) & Chobe National Park
Overview:
To many the Okavango Delta is one of the many reasons to visit Southern Africa and Botswana; the Delta is slap bang in the centre of Southern Africa's driest and flattest arid region. The water of the Okavango River travels southeast for five months across hundreds of kilometres, starting in the Angolan highlands in summer, the water is then squeezed through geological fault lines near the Caprivi Strip, then spreads out across 20 000 square kilometres, a huge fan of surface water seeping into the red detritus of the Kalahari Desert to form this amazing ecosystem! The Delta attracts many species of game, birds as well of course, the two legged homosapien. This trip takes you into the Kalahari Game Reserve for 2nights, then the heart of the Delta visiting two camps and then onwards Lebala in Linyanti region and finally to the infamous Chobe National Park. Here, hundreds of head of game congregate and move through the park, crossing rivers and living off the rich lands. Huge herds of elephant, buffalo, and other water dependent game is to be found and an up close experience on a boat is a must. Trip can be run in reverse for same price starting in Kasane and finishing in Vic Falls

Safari Itinerary

Day 1&2 Tau Pan, Centre Kalahari Game Reserve
This morning you take a light charter flight from Maun through to the amazing Tau Pan where you are based for two nights. Activities include game drives and tracking with a San who will explain and entertain you by answering all your questions from birth to marriage to bush survival. This is one of the best game viewing areas in Botswana at this time of the year and not many people to seem to aware of this - so the visitors are few. The CKGR gets animals such springbok, gemsbok and wildebeest in their thousands and is quite a sight to behold. Predators abound with plentiful lions - especially the famous Kalahari black-maned lion, cheetah, leopard and jackals, brown hyenas and wild dogs are also found in the area. Several species of antelopes make the trip to the sweet grasses of the CKGR which include the eland, springbok, steenbok, gemsbok, hartebeest, kudu and duiker. Bird life is aplenty with the world heaviest flying bird - the kori bustard being common as well as the black korhaan who continuously calls during the daytime. Ostrich are seen roaming free - usually in large flocks.

Day 3&4 Moremi Crossing, or Gunn's Camp, Okavango Delta
Departing from Tau and fly (via Maun) to the Delta; taking in the magnificence of the winding, papyrus-fringed channels that make up one of the world's greatest wet land wonders. You will be able to see some of Africa's most celebrated animals from a bird's eye view 500 FT above the ground; the Okavango is an immense river that never meets the sea. Instead, its crystal clear waters spread across the Kalahari Desert, forming African's largest wetland phenomenon. The Delta is an abundant oasis amid the vast plains and pans of the desert that covers most of Southern Africa. Its waterways are a mesh of meandering and intercepting channels, creating a haven for Africa's most celebrated wildlife.

Day 5&6 Pom Pom Camp, Okavango Delta
Enjoy a leisurely morning (perhaps another activity) before taking a chartered flight from Pom Pom Camp to the amazing Moremi Crossing, overlooking the legendary Chiefs Island and bordering the Moremi Game Reserve. You will be based for two nights and days will be spent exploring the channels and floodplains of the Okavango on boat cruises, mokoros and nature walks. Activities include game drives, night drives, mokoro trips and walks. Morning and evening game drives are based within the private concession area and the qualified guiedes will give you a wealth of infomation about the region and all that lives within it. Mokoro trips are fantastic way to experience the peace and quiet of the birding. You can also enjoy fishing for pike and various bream species; guided walks are also available (seasonal) where you have the opportunity to learn more about the ecology of the area.

Day 7&8 Lebala Camp, Kwando
Transfer by light aircraft to Lebala in the southern portion of the extensive Kwando wilderness of 232,000ha, Lebala means wide open spaces, and the area is a labyrinth of waterway, reed beds, islands and floodplains, bush, scrub and trees. Excellent general game abounds the broad plains creating spectacular scenery, adorned with herds of plains game and the ever attentive predator. The Kwando concession is home to more elephant than the entire country of South Africa. Game drives are rewarding and you may be lucky to see elephants, lion, cheetah, leopard and perhaps one of the packs of wild dog that frequent the area.

Day 9&10 Chobe Safari Lodge or Chobe Bush Lodge, Kasane
Your flight today takes you into one of the most prolific wildlife areas in Africa and offers extensive game viewing from water and land - Chobe National Park. They offer transfers from Vic Falls, Livingstone and Kasane and a whole host of activities including game drives, boat cruises into chobe National Park, fishing, scenic flights, Namibian village walk, visit to a nearby reptile park, and Vic Falls day trip as well as Okavango Delta day trip and any additonal activities can be booked through their activity and information centre.
