Safari Itinerary

Day 1 San Dune Lodge & Bushmen, Gobabis
Your guide will collect you directly from the airport and start your adventure into the Kalahari Basin (naturally this is dependent on your flight times and we recommend an early morning arrival). Our drive today is about 2 hours and we'll check into our accommodation – a family room in the old farmhouse and this afternoon head out to visit a nearby Bushman village where we will have the chance to see singing and dancing, learn how the Bushmen traditionally hunted and see how they make ostrich shell jewellery – it's an insight to one of the oldest lifestyles in the world and to appreciate the way the bushman lived as one with nature.

Day 2 Kalahari Anib Lodge, Kalahari Basin
This morning we walk with the bushman in the veld collecting fruits and whatever else we can find before returning to the lodge and driving to our next destination heading south west to the beautiful Kalahari Basin area, there is time to relax around one of their pools, and later this afternoon join an afternoon game drive on the reserve where we can look for some of the desert adapted animals.

Days 3&4 Neuras Winery & Wildlife Estate; Tsaris Mountains
Today’s journey takes us onto the Tsaris Mountains; not only can you enjoy a glass of wine but join family friendly activities such as carnivore feeding tour, learning about conservation as well as seeing cheetah close up, or alternatively heading out for a sundowner drive. The farm itself has several natural springs, well-worth the effort for either an optional hike to see them.

Day 5&6 Sesriem, Namib Naukluft Park – 2 night camping
It’s a short drive to our destination today - Sesriem - the only campsite within the national park, and the gateway to the sand dune desert. Set in a beautiful landscape with mountains to the east and dunes to the west, the camping area receives its name from the nearby Sesriem Canyon. This afternoon we explore the nearby Elim's Dune for a spectacular sunset and the following morning rise early to drive into the dunes for sunrise (the gate opens 1hour prior to sunrise and it is 1hour's drive). From here there is plenty of opportunity to climb a dune or two and revel in the endless sea of sand as well as run down a dune - great fun for everyone though we can guarantee your shoes will be full of sand at the end

Day 7&8 Brigadoon Guesthouse, Swakopmund
A morning departure and after a short stop at Solitaire for a glimpse into desert town life, we continue through the Namib to the coastal town of Walvis Bay, a protected RAMSAR for wetland birds such as great and lesser flamingos. There is time to walk around the lagoon whilst your guide prepares lunch and a brief stop at the salt farm to see one of Namibia's unique industries. From here, it is a short coastal drive to the historic and adventure seaside town of Swakopmund, where you will have the opportunity to join optional activities on offer - there is plenty to choose from including sand boarding, quad biking, desert tours, marine cruises to see dolphins, sky diving and a plethora of other excursions

Day 9 Twyfelfontein
We leave Swakopmund after breakfast and drive north along the Skeleton Coast stopping to view a shipwreck located close to the shore and further north visiting the huge seal colony at Cape Cross before retracing our steps to Henties Bay and into the desert. We continue through the barren and ancient landscapes of Damaraland to Twyfelfontein. Twyfelfontein achieved UNESCO World Heritage status, and is home to one of the largest collections of rock art in Southern Africa, a local guide will ensure you learn about some of the history of the etchings and the region.

Days 10&11 Opuwo Country Lodge, Kaokoland
We drive north crossing a mountain pass keeping our eyes open for the desert elephant that roam freely in this area and also stop to gaze at the mighty baobab forest before arriving at Opuwo. This town is a real mixture of modern and old, dusty streets, goats and cattle wandering on the road yet modern life have also reached here. The following morning we will take a local guide and head out to visit a local Himba village where we’ll witness how this tribe still survive off the land tending to their cattle and goats, see the women prepare food as well as mix ochre and butter fat to put on their skin to protect it from the harsh environment.

Days 12-14 Etosha National Park, camps within the park
Day 12 Dolomite Camp – 1 night accommodation
Days13&14 Okaukuejo – 2 nights camping

Our destination today is the remarkable Etosha National Park, entering the park through the western gate - this section of park only opened to the public in recent years, and was initially set aside for research. It attracts species you will not see in other areas such as Hartmanns Mountain Zebra and baboon. During our stay, we take advantage of time exploring this incredible park and make the most of the opportunity of first light and dusk to find the animals when they are at their most active. Etosha is home to thousands of animals from pronking springbok, lazy lion, elegant and towering giraffe acting as sentry to antelopes, zebra, rhino and of course, elephants.

Day 15 Frans Indongo Lodge, Otjiwarongo
We sadly leave Etosha behind and head south to our lodge just north of Otjiwarongo, this afternoon you may wish to enjoy an optional activity such as a game drive on the private reserve to see unusual species including black and white rhino, and other plains game, or simply relax by the pool.

Day 16 Chameleon Guesthouse & Backpackers, Windhoek
After a hearty breakfast we drive to the Cheetah Conservation Fund where we visit the educational centre and museum, their programme is an innovative one, not only do they educate the local farmers and villagers but train dogs to protect the livestock from the cheetahs ensuring that both survive – children of all ages are welcome at the educational centre – if you wish to enjoy the cheetah run and see them exercised, kids under 12 must stay outside the enclosure though. However, it’s a great way to see them close up and appreciate these wonderful predators.

Day 17 Flight
Depending on your flight details, you may have a full day at leisure to explore Windhoek, perhaps join a township tour or just buy some last minute gifts; you will be transferred to the airport in time for your flight home.
