Itinerary

Day 1 Eureka Camp, Lusaka

An early start from Victoria Falls and a final glimpse of the falls before driving north to Lusaka passing busy villages, colourful markets and rural regions. Tonight, we are close to the capital

Day 2 Chimwemwe Lodge, Petauke, Zambia

We drive through the busy city then turn east on the Great East Road into rural Zambia and cross the mighty Luangwa River passing subsistence farms and villages

Day 3&4 Wildlife Camp, South Luangwa National Park, Zambia

After stopping at Chipata, this town is important for cotton production and we visit a local workshop. From here, make our way to the tranquillity of the Luangwa River to enjoy 2nights and our first sunset on the banks of the river. On day 4 perhaps enjoy an optional morning safari or during the dry season (April to December) join one of the iconic walking safaris on offer in the park. This afternoon we will enjoy a sunset drive in this wildlife haven, enjoying a sundowner on the way. The unique opportunity to explore this incredible and wild park at night gives us a chance to spot the elusive nocturnal species that are rarely seen in the day. Watch out for plentiful hippos and crocs, herds of ele’s, buffalo, giraffe and gazelle. Big cats particularly leopards are plentiful and reputed to have the largest concentration of these beautiful cats in Africa

Day 5&6 Ngala Beach Lodge, Lake Malawi, Malawi

This morning we board our truck and head to Lake Malawi. Our destination tonight is the shores of Lake Malawi, stretching over 500km along the western boundary of Malawi, the lake is home to more species of fish than other lake. We spend the night on the shores of this natural wonder and on day 6 relax by the lake. Use the time to read a book, soak up sun or indulge in the many attractions that are on offer.

Day 7&8 Majizuwa, Northern Lake Malawi, Malawi

Today we drive north to enjoy a further night in the northern region of the lake. This afternoon we will enjoy a visit to a local community. Snorkelling in the crystal waters offers the chance to see first–hand the brilliantly coloured tropical cichlids, tiny fish often found in colourful aquariums around the world. For the more adventurous amongst us, use today to participate in the Livingstonia hike. This is a strenuous hike that takes between 8 – 12 hours to complete. Your guide will provide additional information on the hike.

Day 9 Kisolanza Farm, Iringa, Tanzania

Leaving Malawi, we ascend the Great River Valley and continue to the southern highlands of Tanzania

Day 10 Asante Afrika Camp, Mikumi National Park, Tanzania

Leaving Iringa behind us, we make our way to Mikumi where we stop for the night. Mikumi National Parks ranks as the fourth largest park in Tanzania and forms part of a 75 000sq km wilderness that centres on Selous, Africa’s largest game reserve. Enjoy a game drive to look for impala, elephant, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest and lion

Day 11–13 Ocean View Hotel, Zanzibar Island, Tanzania

Board our ferry for the two–hour trip to Zanzibar. After arrival, we make our way to the northern shores of the island where there’s time to take part in exciting optional activities from boat cruises to snorkelling or scuba diving and enjoy the fantastic white sand beaches. We visit the spice farms and enjoy a city tour of Stone Town – famed for its slavery and spice markets. Note this excursion is part of the included package

Day 14 Bagamoyo Travellers Lodge, Tanzania

Catching the ferry back to Dar, we collect the truck and drive to Bagamoyo whose name harks back to days of slavery and means “lay down your heart”. Tonight, is by the beach and the afternoon is free to enjoy

Day 15 Ndoro Lodge, Arusha, Tanzania

We continue to the busy town of Arusha, our base for the night. Northern Tanzania is home to the Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Kilimanjaro. Those who have purchased the optional Serengeti Excursion upgrade package will be briefed this evening by our local guide on what to prepare for the coming days

Day 16–18 Kudu Lodge, Karatu, Serengeti National Park, Serengeti & Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania

Although it’s a short distance to Karatu, we spend most of the day travelling closer to Ngorongoro Crater, and upon arrival our guide will brief us on the full day excursion to come.  Karatu is situated to allow you to participate in optional activities during our stay, and those clients who have purchased the Serengeti Excursion (optional) will be collected on the morning of day 16 and follow a separate itinerary
Day 17: We rise early and are transferred to the crater, spending much of the day exploring the crater floor in search of some of the many animals which roam the plains, arriving back at Karatu and camp later in the afternoon
Day 18: Another early start as today we hike to Elephant Cavess, taking you into untouched forests with amazing wildlife, returning to camp and the rest of the day is free to relax or join optional activities available from camp. These include village walking tours, or an excursion to Lake Manyara National Park

Serengeti Excursion: These days are set aside for the optional 3–night camping excursion into the Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater. This area has one of the most densely inhabited large animal populations in Africa. The Serengeti excursion is in open topped 4x4 safari vehicles in order to tackle the challenging side roads in the parks. On arrival we will start with our first game drive. On day 18 we spend the entire day game driving through the Serengeti, our route depending on the movement of the game and sightings, day 19 brings more exploration of the Serengeti before making our way to Ngorongoro Crater where we drive down to the bottom of the crater and see as many animals as possible. The Serengeti is most famous for its wildebeest migration, a circular route where around 1.5m wildebeest troupe in a circular route following their ancient survival instincts not only to find the best grazing but also taking time to breed, its one of the most captivating and exciting natural phenomena’s in the world. There’s large concentrations of animals to see in both the Serengeti and crater from gazelle, elephants, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest and plenty of predators following the movements of the herbivore – don’t miss out

Day 19 Ndoro Camp, Arusha Tanzania

Return to Arusha where we are reunited with our fellow travellers who opted for the Serengeti upgrade or those that stayed behind

Day 20 End of tour

Cross the border into Kenya and make our way to Nairobi, where our tour ends
