Itinerary

Day 1 Windhoek

Upon arrival in the capital city, you will be met and transferred where the remainder of the day is free to relax or explore

Day 2 Kalahari Anib, Kalahari Basin

Your guide will meet you after breakfast and this morning depart from the city driving south to the beautiful Kalahari Basin area, there is time to relax around one of their pools, and later this afternoon join an afternoon game drive on the reserve where we can look for some of the desert adapted animals.

Days 3&4 Neuras Winery & Wildlife Estate, Tsaris Mountains

Today’s journey takes us onto the Tsaris Mountains; where not only can you enjoy wine tasting but also family friendly tours including sundowner tours and carnivore feeding tours to see cheetah at close quarters and learn about their conservation. Day 5&6 Sossusvlei area The next days are dedicated to the wonderful sights of the Namib Naukluft National Park and exploring the famous Sossusvlei dunes and surrounding area, tis plenty of opportunity to climb a dune or two and revel in the endless sea of sand – we visit Sossusvlei, Dead Vlei as well as take time at Dune 45 and Sesriem Canyon. This is one of Namibia’s highlights and easy to see why!

Day 7&8 Self–catering apartment, Swakopmund

We continue through the Namib, crossing the Tropic of Capricorn, to the coastal town of Walvis Bay, a protected RAMSAR for wetland birds such as great and lesser flamingos. From here, it is a short coastal drive to the historic and adventure seaside town of Swakopmund, where you will have the opportunity to join optional activities on offer including sky diving, quad bike tours, desert tours and sandboarding amongst others! A boat cruise is included in this tour where you’ll have the chance to see dolphins, seals and other marine life

Day 9 Twyfelfontein

Drive north along the Skeleton Coast stopping to view a shipwreck located close to the shore and onward to the huge seal colony at Cape Cross. We continue through the barren and ancient landscapes of Damaraland to Twyfelfontein. Twyfelfontein achieved UNESCO World Heritage status, and is home to one of the largest collections of rock art in Southern Africa, a local guide will ensure you learn about some of the history of the etchings and the region.

Days 10&11 Opuwo Country Lodge, Kaokoland

We drive north crossing a mountain pass keeping our eyes open for the desert elephant that roam freely in this area and also stop to gaze at the mighty baobab forest before arriving at Opuwo. This town is a real mixture of modern and old, dusty streets, goats and cattle wandering on the road yet modern life have also reached here. The following morning we will take a local guide and head out to visit a local Himba village where we’ll witness how this tribe still survive off the land tending to their cattle and goats, see the women prepare food as well as mix ochre and butter fat to put on their skin to protect it from the harsh environment

Day 12  Hobatere Lodge, West Etosha

Our destination today is Hobatere Lodge, set on a private reserve adjacent to Etosha, here you can sit by the floodlit waterhole and watch the game come to drink or perhaps join an optional activity such as a sundowner or night drive on the reserve. A great option

Days 13&14 Etosha National Park camps within the park

Our destination today is the remarkable Etosha National Park, entering the park through the western gate – this section of park only opened to the public in recent years, and was initially set aside for research. It attracts species you will not see in other areas such as Hartmanns Mountain Zebra and baboon. During our stay, we take advantage of time exploring this incredible park and make the most of the opportunity of first light and dusk to find the animals when they are at their most active. Etosha is home to thousands of animals from pronking springbok to the mighty elephant, towering giraffe, lazy lions and the endearing Damara dik–dik.

Day 15 Frans Indongo Lodge, Otjiwarongo

We sadly leave Etosha behind and head south to our lodge just north of Otjiwarongo, this afternoon you may wish to enjoy an optional activity such as a game drive on the private reserve to see unusual species including black and white rhino, and other plains game, or simply relax by the pool.

Day 16 Na an Kuse Lodge, Greater Windhoek

We drive to the Cheetah Conservation Fund to visit the educational centre and museum, their programme is an innovative one, not only do they educate the local farmers and villagers but train dogs to protect the livestock from the cheetahs ensuring that both survive – children of all ages are welcome at the educational centre. It’s a great way to see them close up and appreciate these wonderful predators. From here continue south to the craft market at Okahandja your guide will drop you at Na an Kuse Lodge, located north–east of the city, later today or tomorrow morning (depending on flight time) join a San Skills Academy Tour where you’ll have the chance to interact with some of the Bushman community.

Day 17  Airport transfer

Depending on your flight details, transfer to the airport in time for your flight home.
