Upon arrival in the capital city you’ll be transferred to your accommodation and the rest of the day is free to explore – whether you wander around the craft centre or join a city tour, it’s entirely up to you
Meet your guide and start your safari adventure. Heading towards the Spreegshoogte Pass, this traditional farmstead is ideal for walks in stunning landscapes as well as exploring and learning about the running of a livestock and game farm in Namibia – join a sundowner trip, farm or game drive
Our destination takes us to one of Namibia’s most famous landscapes – the towering red dunes of Sossusvlei, your guide will take you on an escorted tour where you can climb a dune or two (and run down the slip–face), experience and learn about this ancient desert and how animals and smaller creatures survive in this harsh landscape. Dead Vlei and Dune 45 are the most photographed of the dunes and you’ll have the chance to visit both and perhaps climb a dune to appreciate the scale and size, the light is best early in the morning when the light trickles over the bright orange dunes. Later, we visit nearby Sesriem Canyon, and find out why this was so important to early explorers
Cross the Tropic of Capricorn to Swakopmund, the next days are set aside for family adventure and fun–filled optional activities. Choose from activities such as sand–boarding, quad–biking or maybe a kayak tour or marine cruise in Walvis Bay lagoon where you can see dolphins and seals, marine bird life and perhaps even a whale or two. Enjoy the cafe culture and restaurants or visit the museum – there is plenty to keep all the family content and occupied, as well as time to relax
Drive north along the Skeleton Coast to Cape Cross seal colony where thousands of Cape fur seals congregate on the beach, rocky outcrops and frolic in the ocean. Turn inland to the vast Namib landscapes and onward to Twyfelfontein – watch out for wandering desert elephants through the dry river–beds as we drive
A local guide will escort us on a tour of the ancient Bushman etchings this morning where we learn about the history of the area. From here, drive through incredible flat–topped mountains and rugged landscapes to northern Damaraland to a community–based lodge/camp for the night
This morning join a Damara cultural excursion with the lodge visiting a local community and finding out about their traditional lifestyle and how they survive in the harsh desert environment. From here, continue to Namibia’s premier game viewing destination, Etosha National Park, our first nights aim to be at Okaukuejo, famous for it’s floodlit waterhole and regarded as one of the best spots for wildlife – during the dry winter months its not unusual to see rhino, elephant, predators and herbivores all clamouring to drink. We enjoy exciting game drives with our guide who will share his/her knowledge with you about the park, its geology and of course, the many animals and birds we will see as we visit some of the many waterholes and traverse the park
After a final game drive, we leave Etosha behind us and head to the Cheetah Conservation Fund where we find out about conservation of one of the world’s endangered species – the cheetah. Learn about this beautiful big cat, famed for being the fastest land animal with a 1 hour visit to the visitor centre and museum. From here we continue to our lodge and final night on safari
Today we return to Windhoek where you are dropped at the airport, its time to bid your guide goodbye and take your onward connection (no flights prior to late afternoon)
