Itinerary

Day 1 A La Mer, Swakopmund Town

Leaving Windhoek behind, we make our way west to the coastal and activity town of Swakopmund, full of characterful buildings and the chance to join optional adventure activities from quad biking, or scenic flights.  We also visit Walvis Bay Lagoon, a RAMSAR protected wetland site for coastal birds including flamingos

Day 2&3  Sesriem Oshana Camp for Sossusvlei

After the chance for a short morning activity, we leave the coast behind crossing the seemingly–endless gravel plains. Our destination is a UNESCO World Heritage Site ranging from towering dunes, mountains, ephermeral rivers and gravel plains. It’s a pre–dawn departureon day 2 as we want to catch the soft light of the sunrise on the iconic Dune 45 where landscape photo opportunities abound as perfect sculpted shadows are cast. From here, we explore the magical Dead Vlei, Sossusvlei and surrounds before returning to base. A short visit to nearby Sesriem Canyon and Elims Dune are included during our stay

Day 4&5 Klein Aus Vista, Aus & for Luderitz

Continue south to Klein Aus to enjoy endless desert vistas.  On day 5 enjoy a day trip towards the coast stopping at Kolmanskop, a ghost town where sand has taken over the buildings, half filling rooms and an eerie air remains. Kolmanskop was famous for its diamond rush in the 1920’s where gem–quality stones were picked from the ground and traded, it was home to the first x–ray machine in southern Africa, along with a Miss Kolmanskop competition! All that remains today is a reminder of the past but the chance for great photos. We make our way to Luderitz, with colourful colonial buildings and out to the rugged coastline at Diaz Point, a cross paying homage to the Portuguese mariner Bartholomew Diaz. On our return, we stop at the desert horses who roam freely in these arid lands

Day 6  Quiver Tree Forest via Fish River Canyon

This morning takes us to the rocky landscapes of Fish River Canyon, reputed to the be second largest in the world, around 160km long and reaching depths of up to 550m. Take in the spectacular vistas and walk along the rim, find out about the myths and geology, and from here continue onward to Quiver Tree Forest and tonight gaze at starry skies - ideal fo avid photographers

Day 7 Windhoek

After exploring the Quiver Tree Forest in daylight, and onward to Giants Playground, we return to our start point – Windhoek
