This morning we enjoy a visit to the spectacular Victoria Falls and from here drive to Hwange, regarded as one of the finest wildlife havens with world–renowned herds of elephant, buffalo and zebra and large concentrations of giraffe. Look out for predators and endangered species such as wild dog and rhino.
The beautiful Matobo (also known as Matopos) is an area steeped in tribal history and majestic rock landscapes. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, we explore the area on a game drive watching out for game such as rhino, sable and to perhaps to spot a leopard in an area reputed to hold the most–dense population of this predator in the world. We head first to Bulawayo and then spend the afternoon exploring Matobos before returning to the town
According to an age–old legend the ruins were built to replicate the palace of the Queen of Sheba in Jerusalem, and are a unique testimony to the Bantu civilization of the Shona between the 11th and 15th centuries. They cover an area of 1800 acres and are some of the oldest and largest structures located in Southern Africa and a monument to early Zimbabwean civilization. We have the opportunity to explore these ancient ruins with a guided walking tour
Leaving the sites of Zimbabwe behind us, we cross the Limpopo River and enter South Africa –end the day with a swim in the hot springs of Tshipise
Our safari comes to an end later this afternoon in Johannesburg
