Today take us to Etosha National Park, Namibia’s premier game reserve and we enjoy game driving in this unique setting. The arid landscape is interspersed with game–rich waterholes and we hope to see some of the many species of game and birds during our travels. One night is spent inside the park allowing us the opportunity to sit at the floodlit waterhole in the evening and maybe seeing game such as elephant, black rhino and lion come to drink.
We start today’s game drive at sunrise to catch the predators while they are still active, visiting many waterholes and return to Halali for breakfast. From here we explore the park further visiting the huge Etosha Pan – translated means “Great White Place” and so large can be seen from space. We continue game driving leaving the park late in the afternoon.
Our drive takes us towards the coast, en–route stopping near Uis at the Herero and Himba ladies and their stalls where they sell handmade crafts to help support their families – it’s a great chance to interact and find out a little more about their lifestyles. Onto Namibia’s largest coastal town Swakopmund via a shipwreck near Henties Bay arriving late in the afternoon
This morning there is time to join an optional activity such as sand boarding or quad biking before our departure later in the morning. From here we cross the gravel plains and desert over the Kuiseb and Gaub Passes to Solitaire arriving at our base late afternoon before taking a short walk for sunset looking over the Naukluft mountain range.
We arrive at the park gate for sunrise to ensure to make the most of early morning light as it trickles over the dunes and mountains casting ever–changing shadows. We take the 4x4 shuttle into the heart of the region and there’s the chance to climb one of the highest dunes “Big Daddy” before wandering across Dead Vlei pan with its long–dead skeletal trees, from here explore Sossusvlei before making our way back via Dune 45 and Sesriem Canyon arriving back late in the afternoon
