Activities In and Around Victoria Falls

There are numerous activities to keep even the most active and adrenalin junkie busy at Vic Falls.  Regarded as the main activity centre in Southern Africa there's plenty to do from white water rafting to the most gentile breakfast on Livingstone Island.  Below is an indication of what you can enjoy.  If you would like to book these activities are part of your trip please ask.

Elephant Back Riding
An elephant back safari is not just a ride on the largest animal in Africa, it's an unforgettable experience where clients get to interact with the elephants as well as enjoy a ride through wilderness areas and beautiful riverine scenery.  Whilst on the ride, clients may see other wild elephant as well as buffalo, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and a host of other plains game.  Along the Zambezi River, hippo and crocodile are common and there is a wide variety of bird species.  Each elephant has its own handler and clients will leave having witnessed the elephant's incredible skills, intelligence and willingness to respond to instruction.  The ride is approximately one hour and the overall interaction time with the elephants is about 3 hours.  Trips are available in the morning and afternoon.

Elephant Encounters
For something completely different you can enjoy a unique bush walk with the elephants. Guests walk with their guides through some of Victoria Fall's most pristine scenery as our elephants go about their day roaming free in the bush to browse, play, socialize and sometimes swim. These magnificent animals offer guests a privileged glimpse into a day in the life of an African Elephant.  Guests are able to meet and learn about our Elephants as well as the African bush. Our guides’ work exclusively with the Elephants and are also well versed in local folklore, bush medicine and indigenous flora and fauna.

Both these activities need to be booked in advance and guaranteed with credit card.

Microlight Ride -
The microlight has an open cockpit for the ultimate adrenaline ride! Microlights have a unique wing-mounted camera which enables clients to capture this exciting experience on film.  There are restrictions that apply on the microlight - a minimum age of six years and maximum mass of 100kg. Flight duration ranges from 15 minutes which offers stunning views of Victoria Falls and the Zambezi River; to a 30 minute flight which goes down stream over the Batoka Gorge or upstream over the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park providing an excellent game spotting opportunity.

Helicopter Ride
15 or 30minute flights. The helicopter seating is designed so that all passengers have a good view on the Falls and the scenery below.  Flights operate all day and have a capacity for five passengers.  Charter flights are also available.  An option is to include a helicopter flip with a white water rafting trip through the Batoka Gorge - it saves the walk from the bottom of the gorge at the end of the day!  We recommend early or late afternoon flights to see the falls at their best.  Both activities need to be booked in advance

Upper Zambezi Canoeing
The canoe trails operate above Victoria Falls and are the perfect activity for those who want to experience the tranquility of the Zambezi River as they paddle downstream with the current in inflatable two-man canoes. The trails begin approximately 25km upstream from the the Victoria Falls and during the day about 18km is spent canoeing with a stop at an island for lunch.  At the end of the day, the trip reaches the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park boundary where clients are met by vehicles for a drive through the National park. In the park, clients have a good opportunity for spotting the endangered white rhino as well as other species such as elephant.  The safari ends at the Zambezi Waterfront.

Boat Cruises
There are a selection of boat cruises along the Upper Zambezi - some are on smaller boats, some rather luxurious and then there's the famous "booze cruise".  Pick the style that suits you - most depart for sunset -
Rates vary between US$45-60.

Lion Encounter, Zimbabwe
Situated on the Masuwe Estate, only 10 minutes from the centre of Victoria Falls town you'll find a group of lion cubs ranging from 3 to 16 months of age. These lion cubs offer guests an unparalleled experience and insight into the behaviour of this threatened African species.
The “walking with lions” encounter is an opportunity to interact with 2 or 3 cubs for up to an hour and a half during a single session.
The lions are unrestrained and roam free as you join them on a walk through riverine vegetation and African bush on the banks of the Masuwe River.  The encounter is fully supervised and professionally managed by an experienced and qualified team who have been working with lions for over 20 years originally at Gweru’s Antelope Park.  This activity is available in Zimbabwe only but arrangements can be easily made for guests staying in Livingstone on the Zambian side of Victoria Falls - if you are crossing into Zimbabwe please note you will need to also pay for your visa to enter the country
