Gorilla and Chimp Experience

Mountain Gorilla Trekking
This is one of the main highlights for anyone taking a trip into Uganda or Rwanda. The trek to find the gorillas can take anything from 45 minutes to five hours and although your viewing time is limited to one hour, you may get as close as 5 metres to these incredible primates. The Wildlife Authorities make sure that all necessary precautions are taken – the trekking groups are small and the guides experienced and knowledgeable, making this the trek of a lifetime. The trek can be from 3 hours to 10 hours.
Notes: Children under 15 years of age are unable to trek.
Gorilla trekking can be done in either Uganda or Rwanda although it does depend on permit availability at time of booking.

Chimp Trekking
Chimp trekking in either Kibale Forest or at Kyambura Gorge is a thrilling experience - not only because you are searching for man’s closest relative, but because the habitat in which they live is remarkable and full of beautiful birds and several other primates. The treks can be from 2 hours to 3 hours.
Notes: Children under 13 years of age are unable to trek.
Chimp trekking can be done in Kibale Forest (Fort Portal) or Kyambura Gorge (QEII National Park)

Ngamba Island – Chimp Sanctuary
Ngamba Island is a sanctuary for rescued chimpanzees. A one hour boat journey takes you to the island where you are invited to spend the day in the company of these unique primates.
Notes: Children as young as 3 are able to visit the Island. Lifejackets are provided for the boat crossing.
Ngamba Island is off the mainland, accessible via Entebbe, and can be done am or pm.

5 Day Gorilla Adventure Safari

Day 1
We depart early on the first day when we head southwest towards the gorilla forests - crossing the Equator we stop for lunch at Mbarara.  Afterwards we pass through savannah grasslands covered in acacia trees and into the foothills of the Virungas were there are vast banana plantations. We stop for the night next to the stunning Lake Bunyoni where we get the chance to enjoy the sunset whilst looking out for otters and the many different types of bird life found in this beautiful area.

Day 2
After a good breakfast we have the opportunity to take a local dug out canoe trip in order to discover the many islands around the lake. We will explore Kabale Town and have lunch at one of the quality local restaurants before continuing our drive into the hills towards the forests of the Mountain Gorillas. We spend the night just next to the National Park where the sounds of the forest can be heard very clearly.

Day 3 – Gorilla Trek
We rise with the sun in order to eat a good breakfast, followed by a meeting with a ranger guide before setting off into the gorilla sanctuary. The rain forest landscape is steep and densely forested, but criss-crossed with animal trails allowing access to tourists. The trek to find the earth’s greatest primate can take up to a full day, but the thrill of discovering this gentle giant in it’s own habitat is rated as one of Africa’s best wildlife watching opportunities. By the time you return to the camp the memories will be embedded in your mind forever.

Day 4
Today we will drive through twisted and winding roads, and lake dotted countryside, before emerging on to the lower thorn and savannah scrub lands of Lake Mburo National Park. Zebra, buffalo, Ugandan Kob and plenty of other species abound in this beautiful park, where you either stay in the stunning Lodge built atop a kopje with incredible views across the park or in the National Park bandas, down by the lake - where hippos usually come and graze close by.

Day 5
Fancy a walk through wild, wild Africa? This morning we are going to take a walking safari, complete with a ranger, so we can get up close and personal on ground level to many of the beautiful and free animals of the park. Later we stop for lunch and a cappuccino at the Equator giving you plenty of time to shop for crafts and watch the local water demonstration of the different gravitational pulls! Afterwards we will make our way back to your final destination and the end of your Mountain Gorilla Safari.
