Luxury Accommodation In Maun

Motsentsela Tree Lodge
Probably regarded as the best lodge in Maun and we can see why.  Motsentsela Tree Lodge is a small Lodge ideally situated away from the bustle of Maun, perfect for the more discerning traveller, on his/her way to or from the Okavango Delta.
The main thatched complex consisting of bar, lounge, entrance hall and dining room is very spacious, stylishly furnished with large windows. The front is bordered by a large teak deck, which surrounds two large trees, a Leadwood and a Birdplum, from which the Lodge gets its Setswana name.
The Lodge consists of seven large Meru style tents, each with en suite toilet facilities, catering for a maximum of fourteen clients. The tents are large enough to be very comfortable, simply furnished but stylish and attractive. All tents are on decks, surrounded by trees and are well spaced for privacy.
With the recent addition are 2 new Honeymoon cottages – The Lodge can now accommodate 18 people. The Cottages are thatched with a unique outside shower set amongst the forest. Another feature is an en suite large circular bath with stunning views.
Motsentsela Tree Lodge has seven tented safari rooms and two honeymoon suites, that are so far from camping it's not funny. They are so stylish and comfortable, that you just hope your next safari lodge in the Okavango Delta will be this good.
Maun is the base town from which most Okavango Delta safaris start, and to avoid the rush of connecting flights both inward and outgoing, I recommend breaking into safari mode slowly with a night or two at Motsentsela Tree Lodge
It's situated on private land so you can enjoy self guided walks and keep your eyes open for game such as oryx, springbok and other desert adapted species - quite a haven from the busy, dusty streets of Maun.  Depending on your length of stay, other activities such as scenic flights, horse riding, cultural village tours etc can be booked for you before or after your Delta excursion.
Please note that the lodge is only accessible with 4x4 vehicles.

Thamalakane River Lodge

This is one of our favourites in town (well, 19km north of town).  Not quite as "luxurious" as Motsetsela it is a good value option and easier to get to (just 300km off the main road so even a small sedan will get you in).  The main lapa is spacious with a cosy lounge and small library, it also contains the bar and generous dining area, leading out on to the gardens and views onto the river.  There's a great water feature and pond as well as plenty of lush garden areas and a swimming pool with chairs and hammocks to while away the time.   Each of the stone and thatch built chalets are spacious with en-suite facilities and all the mod cons you would expect in a lodge of the level, the design will also help keep the place cool in summer and warm in winter.  The menu is plentiful and varied, offering a huge range from basic, good value meals such as pizza and pasta, to a la carte style menu - it's known by the locals to produce the best pizza in town and there's even a kiddies menu!   An ideal place for the start or finish of your Delta experience.
