Cañon Village lies at the base of a large rocky outcrop inside the privately owned Gondwana Canyon Park. The park itself is 520 sq km and sits on the edge of the Richtersveld National Park in which lies the Fish River Canyon.
Cañon Village, sits just 2kms from Cañon Village, it's slightly more upmarket sister. The lodge is built in the Cape Dutch style and the prides itself on the local history with dozens of mural scattered around the reception area depicting the history and the culture of the Bondelswart Nama, the earlier inhabitants of the area. On arrival, your bags will be taken to your room, by donkey cart, showing off part of the distinct character of Cañon Village.
The main building, a massive thatched building built into the surrounding boulders houses the reception, restaurant and cozy bar area where travellers can meet and share their travel experiences. Alternatively, on those hotter summer days, relax by the pool and enjoy the stunning views over the plains.
Cañon Village is the largest of the Gondwana Collection in the area, with 40 rooms all with en-suite bathroom. Rooms are simple and clean, and also decorated with historical murals. |
