Located just 12km north of Maun, where the meandering Thamalakane River forms a picturesque backdrop, is Island Safari Lodge, one of the traditional lodges in the area. The drive from the main road alone (around 2-3km) will make you feel like you're in another world away from the hustle and bustle of town life.
There are around 12 cottage-style chalets that are nestled under the canopy of huge, ancient trees offering a respite from the heat of the sun. Established gardens offer privacy and a sense of peace and quiet. There's a swimming pool overlooking the river near the deck from where the boats are launched to carry you off onto your adventures - perhaps you may join an afternoon boat cruise along the river, or a trip into the Delta.
The main lapa has a partially enclosed restaurant, as well as bar and lounge area and the chalets are currently being renovated into neutral tones and having a bit of a face lift! All have en-suite facilities as well as tv, air con etc.
